Shame.

Mom, I always told you I am brave, but right now,  only for your arms do I crave, The monster scares me and leaves me in pain., I bravely tried to resist but it was all in vain, I see some blood and my clothes are all torn, Mom, please just come and take me home! On the other side of this door, My friends play their game, My muffled screams are too weak for them to hear me call their name. I shiver in fear, bare and alone,  Mom, why don't you take me home? P.S. This poem is just a futile attempt at trying to bring out what the five year old rape victim must have gone through. I don't think anyone can know exactly how that little child must have felt then. The monstrosity and remorselessness has crossed all boundaries. Maybe humanity is dead and what's left are just carcasses.

An open letter to Politicians, God men and all those who have taken it upon themselves to enlighten us...

Dear Sirs/ Madams, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude towards you for enlightening us women as to why when we do certain things; we call upon ourselves the inevitable circumstance of getting raped. Had you not stepped upon the mantle to highlight what we dented and painted women do, we would have stayed in the darkness of ignorance and continued to get raped and hoped for justice only stemming out of the wrong belief that the rapist is the criminal and not us. Your efforts at highlighting our “mistakes” and “invitation for rape” are surely noteworthy. It’s only because of you that we have realized that staying out of the house late at night, having a male companion who is not a brother or husband, wearing skirts and other provocative clothing, not going home strait away from school or college, listening to western music, having a mobile phone, staying in India and not Bharat mean an invitation that reads “I have crossed the Lakshma...

My dignity and pride...

I was a little girl living in a world so pure and without any lies, A day came and I was no longer the girl with innocent eyes. You ripped apart my clothes aiming to take away my dignity, I resisted all I could but, my physical strength failed compared to your insanity. I couldn't understand then what was happening to me, I only saw a known face, But the animal behind it, I couldn't see. You got your pleasure and fulfilled your greed and lust, Leaving me there in pain, and a shattered trust. The wounds given by you on the surface have healed, Its the wounds inside that still hurt and profusely bleed. These wounds won't go away, no matter how much I tried, But, I will smile again as I will always have in me, My dignity and pride.

Aap apni beti ki shaadi kab kar rahe ho?

A daughter is born and the family starts planning of saving for "gifts" (don't use the "D" word...its too passe! Besides, we are modern people who don't support societal taboos) for here marriage. The girl grows up.She is sent to the same school as her brother. She is allowed to play with boys. She chooses to go to college. Not too far from home.A course is chosen for her to study further.its assessed not according to her interest but the time it will take to complete. Akhir shaadi bhi toh karni hai.Bas iski shaadi ho jaye toh hum bhi apni zimmedaari se mukt!  By the time the girl is on the right side on 25, every relative who she didn't even know ,existed, starts to pop up.Everybody is worried about her marriage .Rishtas sare suggested by "wellwishers".Everybody jumps on the marriage bandwagon in full force.A little thing is forgotten, that she aspires to work after getting a degree. But its irrelevant.
