Shame.

Image
Mom, I always told you I am brave, but right now,  only for your arms do I crave, The monster scares me and leaves me in pain., I bravely tried to resist but it was all in vain, I see some blood and my clothes are all torn, Mom, please just come and take me home! On the other side of this door, My friends play their game, My muffled screams are too weak for them to hear me call their name. I shiver in fear, bare and alone,  Mom, why don't you take me home? P.S. This poem is just a futile attempt at trying to bring out what the five year old rape victim must have gone through. I don't think anyone can know exactly how that little child must have felt then. The monstrosity and remorselessness has crossed all boundaries. Maybe humanity is dead and what's left are just carcasses.

An open letter to Politicians, God men and all those who have taken it upon themselves to enlighten us...

Dear Sirs/ Madams, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude towards you for enlightening us women as to why when we do certain things; we call upon ourselves the inevitable circumstance of getting raped. Had you not stepped upon the mantle to highlight what we dented and painted women do, we would have stayed in the darkness of ignorance and continued to get raped and hoped for justice only stemming out of the wrong belief that the rapist is the criminal and not us. Your efforts at highlighting our “mistakes” and “invitation for rape” are surely noteworthy. It’s only because of you that we have realized that staying out of the house late at night, having a male companion who is not a brother or husband, wearing skirts and other provocative clothing, not going home strait away from school or college, listening to western music, having a mobile phone, staying in India and not Bharat mean an invitation that reads “I have crossed the Lakshma...

Next time, just call her INDIA.

WHY SHOULD I BE SCARED? Just because I am a woman? Am I not as much a citizen of free India as any male out there? Then why do I feel unsafe? Why do my parents have to worry about my safety every time I step out of my house? Is it not my right to live without fear? I don't expect answers to my questions. Do I want change to take place? Without a doubt. Do I think there will be changes? A very small voice in me says it will. How many more Nirbhayas/Amanats/Daminis do we need to bring about changes required to make it a safer place for women? I don't know. But I am guessing a lot. I say this, fully aware of the fact that the next victim could be me or someone I know. But does that make me anymore hopeful of change? No. But it does make me more fearful. I am asked to cover up if I don't want to be raped. I am asked to not drink at clubs so that I am not considered easy. I am asked to surrender when six men force themselves on me, only so that I can save my life. Di...

Irony! That's what is life...

Image
Dissatisfied and disheartened, due to failure and obstacles, We question everything, hoping for a miracle. Never taking a step back to ponder, Life, maybe, is what happens while we wonder! The situation, how should it be, and how it actually is, This expectation makes us feel, even in perfection, something is amiss. The difference always lies in how we label our lows and highs, Happy sorrows or sad smiles, because, Irony! That's what is life.

Towards star light...

Image
Taking little baby steps towards a huge flight, On the distant dream,  I have set my sights. Rejoicing the good and learning from the bad, Taking my own path,  not following the fad. My way ahead is filled  with tumbles and falls, But, to follow your heart,  isn't the easiest of all. The tiny little inner voice, makes me sure, That I am stronger than the troubles I shall endure. So flapping my wings,  I am ready to take the flight, Hoping to see in the dark,  the brightest star light!

Lust story. : My entry for the Get Published contest

Image
" Same time and day, next week. My place." Aditya said while getting dressed. "Hmmm..." she said lost in her thoughts. Content and satisfied thoughts. He bent down and kissed her on her forehead. Naina loved it when he did that. A smile comes upon her face every time his lips touch her forehead. Off he went to work while she stayed back nursing the smile on her face. Last night played out in front of her eyes. He couldn't peel his eyes off her. In the short red dress, she was dressed to kill and he was her target. And going by the look on his face, she was having the desired effect. It was lust in its purest form in his eyes. Lust! That's what describes their relationship the best. No strings attached they called it. Attraction lead to sharing beds but not hearts. "The day you fall in love with me, this ends." she had told him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Blue butterfly...

Image
Once upon a time A bright blue fly Crashed into my life. Noble and true So beautiful and cute, Such  a pretty butterfly, And he was mine. He loved and gave joy, I was all smiles, because he was my butterfly. Then came a day He bid me farewell. Shocked and aghast I wondered what went wrong? Such pretty and divine He was meant to be forever mine. But I couldn't hold him tight Or command and fight. To see his smile I set him free and sigh. Now he is gone My Beautiful life is bygones. Neither any butterfly has that charm Nor could provide that love & warmth. So now I simply wait, Hoping, blue butterfly crashes in again! This poem is written by a very good friend of mine, Nikitha, who happens to be a budding poetess and a newbie blogger. Beautiful thoughts brew in her mind and she serves them fresh at  Brewed and Served Hot.. Pay this little space a visit and be sure to be enthralled by gem...

Just believe...

Image
Grab the hand that holds itself out, That one hand for you, in the crowd. Grab it like you will never let go, It could last forever for all you know! Take chances and risk to fly, In those chances, does destiny lie, Let go of whats holding you back, Walk on the untraveled track. Have faith and take the leap, Explore uninhibitedly the waters deep. Trust life, beautiful stories it does weave, To savor the sweetness, always you have to  JUST BELIEVE!

I am not alone...

Image
When the times are tough, when life calls on my bluff, Times when sadness seems a drone, You remind me,  I am not alone. When the world feels desolate, when one starts cursing fate, times when poisonous seeds are sown, I see you and I know, I am not alone. Your smile tells me I will be fine, and that its just a matter of time, You are where I feel at home, always reminding me , I am not alone. P.S : There are people in our lives who never abandon us. They stand by us in every season. This poem is dedicated to such gems in my life. They remind me why I am truly blessed!

My dignity and pride...

Image
I was a little girl living in a world so pure and without any lies, A day came and I was no longer the girl with innocent eyes. You ripped apart my clothes aiming to take away my dignity, I resisted all I could but, my physical strength failed compared to your insanity. I couldn't understand then what was happening to me, I only saw a known face, But the animal behind it, I couldn't see. You got your pleasure and fulfilled your greed and lust, Leaving me there in pain, and a shattered trust. The wounds given by you on the surface have healed, Its the wounds inside that still hurt and profusely bleed. These wounds won't go away, no matter how much I tried, But, I will smile again as I will always have in me, My dignity and pride.

Irony!

Image
He loves me. I believe him. She says she loves him too. He doesn't believe her since he found another man in her bed. Who am I ? I am the other woman in the "marriage".

Love is a funny thing...

Image
You fall in it with a sigh,  Always with a hope to rise high,  All you hear, then, is its calling,  But beware as they say, Love is a funny thing! Ignoring you go on, in a direction unknown,  You wonder, till now, how did you stay alone,  It captures your mind, only love songs do you sing,  Already forgotten that,  Love is a funny thing! Perfect or imperfect as the situation maybe,  It's not all rosy, time makes you see,  Not just happiness but sorrow too it brings,  Maybe its true that,  Love is a funny thing! What makes it worth are the happy times,  So, you start making lemonade of the given lime,  Together or apart, you find the feeling fulfilling,  You finally realize, that,  Love truly is a funny thing !

Final goodbye..

Image
"I tried. But nothing is working anymore and I can't see you like this." He tried to justify. She didn't react.  He looked at her, with tears in his eyes, also with the last shreds of hope. But he should have known better. She still didn't budge, not even now, not even as they said their final goodbye... "I am sorry" he said as he watched them unplug the ventilator.

Gift of Gyaan.

Image
October brings along a great opportunity for all to play a small part in a huge cause i.e. education of the underprivileged children. Gyaan exchange , a start-up company, in association with its NGO partner  Goonj  has organised a BOOK COLLECTION DRIVE in all the major metros of India until 10th October, 2012. Gyaan exchange is an online community where anybody with a skill, knowledge or idea can teach and anyone with a desire to gain knowledge can learn new things. Gyaan exchange aims to collect at least 500 books through this drive and has volunteered to give them to their NGO partner Goonj.  Goonj works as a medium in channelizing the unused materials lying idle in our urban homes to far flung villages where people don’t have access to the basic essentials for living. If you have any questions about the NGO, you can find your answers  here . All you have to do to make a contribution is go to your book shelves, pick up the books you ...

'Someone' to 'Anyone'..

Image
Fluttering heart and naughty butterflies, Made her believe in his disguise, He claimed and she believed, This was the love,  she had always  conceived Bit by bit the facade broke down, Tears followed every fight and frown, Breaking her trust was his final blow, Making it easy for her to let him go, He had turned from any stranger to her special 'Someone', only to go ahead and prove, He really was her 'Anyone' !

First date...

Image
In the middle of a confused day, The sort when sun and clouds  hide and seek play, A messaged beeped and brought out the sun, "I shall see you at eight" She beamed and felt a rush, The rush of a first date! What do I wear, was her first thought, Before too many thoughts came pouring in a lot, What would we talk about, how would it be? The way he truly is, will I get to see? Her chain of thoughts was broken  as the clock struck an hour, She realized looking at the clock, Eight is not that far! Looking dapper, flowers in hand, He arrived not a minute late, Checked herself out for the last time, Wearing a lovely smile, she greeted him, Knowing she was ready  for her date at eight!

Little tinkling drops of rain...

Image
Little tinkling drops of rain, Splash and hit my window pane.. A smile appears on my face, As the rain never ceases to amaze.. Its nature's blessing for romance The perfect excuse and a great chance, For a long drive to no where, An excuse to show you care,  Or to have a heart to heart, To find new love too, it could be the perfect start.. A season to let go and have fun, Alone or with someone, It turns the dull city into green, There something about it  that is calm and serene... Monsoon can make your hearts soar, So welcome it and get drenched to the core...

Soak no more...

Image
A lot has been happening around us. And in some way, almost everything that makes it to the news these days, is a story of the victory of wrong over right. Truth over lies. Hatred over Lies and Insanity over Sanity. We watch the news. Our reactions range from the typical " Iss desh ka kuch nahi ho sakta" to "I want to change things but i don't know how." Our contribution ends there.  We make sure that nothing has happened to the ones we love.Make sure that our little world is alright. Then change the channel and the thought is out of our minds. This apathy is our biggest problem and not the crimes that happen because of it. The cause is our indifference and the effect is the increased rates of crimes. I realize this as many of you do too. So when   The Surf Excel Matic SoakNoMore Contest  page on Indiblogger asks "What do you think of when you hear the words Soak No more" ? This is what I feel. Lust prevails, dignity loses...

Take a chance...

Image
The cold metal is the only barrier that stops you from diving into the unknown. You grab hold of it as tightly as you can. You walk along the railing and clutch anything you can to not slip. Finally upon reaching the edge, you try having a look at the unknown. You are so fearful that you can't muster courage to see beyond the known. You fear losing the surety. You fear losing the familiarity. You fear losing the comfort. You fear the newness. You fear the permanency of change. You fear what you haven't seen yet. Standing on the edge, you can see the glimpses of what lies ahead if you take the fall. You like it too. It feels like fresh air. It feels like something you crave for. Suddenly, after holding on for too long, comes along a moment that makes you let go. Surprisingly, you immediately find out how it feels now. It feels like freedom!

Little packets of hope...

Image
Things are not going your way, Black is more evident in the gray, Not a smile on your face, Nothing gives you solace.. Everyone and everything appear distant, In favoring you, luck seems hesitant, You feel time is not on your side, and there is nothing you haven't tried. Just when you think it can't get worse, Something happens and life seems like a curse, You stop smiling and give it all up, Not half filled, its an empty cup. I am the same as you, Having felt this,in times old and new. But now when i look and ponder, It all makes perfect sense, i realize in wonder. The cup was always filled up to the half, I found no reason to not laugh, There are little joys around in every season, Always believe everything happens for a reason. Just when you think its difficult to cope, Look around, You will always find , Little packets of hope!
