Say no to corruption !!

Given the current times, I don't know how many people will agree with me.I going to attempt saying my viewpoint, nonetheless.

I dont get the protest that is on right now.Everybody and anybody is jumping on the wagon to fight corruption. Its a mass rage. Its difficult to have a discussion without it veering towards "The fight against corruption"

CORRUPTION.We have concluded its a dirty word.Something that should be eradicated completely.Every process that involves a government official is dreaded. When something doesn't work the way it should, we give up hope that anything can ever be good in the country."Sab chor hai" is something we say so frequently in context of the government and its officials.

What we don't see is that the system of corruption involves two parties. The bribe taker and bribe giver. All of us have played the latter role, sometime. All of us, have at some point or other, opted for the easier way.Who will take the long way, if there is a quicker way out, albeit at a little cost? Be it at a traffic signal or at a government office, even the best of us have faltered and succumbed to the lure of no hassles. We are a self righteous lot.Its easy to ignore own wrongdoing. Its even easier to find faults in others and the system.

This is the basic reason i don't relate to the ongoing protest. To me its an example of "selective idealism".If we choose to protest against the wrong,we should look at ourselves first and make sure we are nowhere a part of it.Why should only the bribe taker be blamed? The bribe giver is as much a party to it.All it takes is a "NO" and a lot of willpower.Am sure a little voice inside of us says " I wish i could do the same" whenever we see a "jaago re" ad.

To me protest, like charity, begins at home.If we give up succumbing in every small way, we will have a little less to rue over.Even after doing so, corruption will still stay a dirty word, but we wont have any bit of dirt on our conscience.

Its the perfect time to "JAAGO RE"!!

  1. it is impossible to completely eradicate corruption. and i personally feel brand anna is overrated. when i too am so old that i hardly have years left in my life, i too will fast unto death against the government for some social cause. who cares about the outcome? atleast i'll be famous before i die, and forever thereafter.

  2. as long as inequality is there, corruption will be there...that does not mean we loose hope and stop fighting...

  3. i sincerely feel that a person should NOT be above the cause.people have forgotten the actual issue.things have gotten really weird with the govt actually looking a toddler with inability to think.sonia goes for 1-2 week and this!

  4. Introspection is,no doubt, required by all of us but that does not in any way undermine the need for an administrative system that is corruption free....We are not living in a "ram rajya" where everyone can be expected to follow the right path everytime...the recent protests are due to the frustration among people bcos of the inadequate steps taken to combat the evil...in anna hazare ,we have juz found a face through which we vent our anger...lokpal is not the final solution...it is only a small step taken towards a clean india....i think we should be proud that finally there is an urge to remove the prevalent cynicism among the people ....

  5. Selective Idealism- you have put it aptly.

  6. Hey Upa,
Agreed to some of your veiws, its never one way its always 2 way. if we stop giving then where will they take it from...
But this is more of a faliure of the mechanism than the people in all.
Just yesterday some1 told me... "there are 10% people who are good who do not bribe... there are 10% who are bad who always try to influence and get their work in bad way... and the other 80% are innocent. they bend the side where its heavy. The failure of Mechanism makes them give bribe and what these people are doing is trying to improve the mechanism so all can turn to good side...

  7. @kalpak : I am not against the movement or the people involved.if he is doin it with honest intentions then am all for it.but u can never be sure abt such things!

@sub: I never said we should stop fighting,I think there is work to do within ourselves before we question others.

@maniac.hunter : Its true! But u can never say with the mob.

  8. @anurag : Am not advocating ramrajya! all i want to say is,if we are tryin to get lokpal in place so that the corrupt fear asking for bribes, we should set up a lokpal within us, who refuses to pay up when asked. If u blame only the taker,u r ignoring the fact that the somebody is givin it.

  9. @ chintan : Am sure its the failure of mechanism, and maybe lokpal will help correctin it.But even after lokpal, bribe givers exists then its an utter failure.people supportin the current movement should make a promise to themselves that tey ll never ever pay up if asked.Cause only then will somebody be able to give up the lure of the easy way out.Or else its just a sham!

    @Hariharan : Thank u!

  10. @ upasana: See no one gaurentees that a promise shall be kept... atleast mechanism shall ensure some remedy. And there is always a start to something... atleaset in JANLOKPAL we have an assurance that if people dont work on the complaint in 3 months they personal there can be thrown....

See the current need of the hour is not promises to same and all but awarness about the bill... if some1 wishes to know the interna details of the same please catch the jan lokpal express which is running on the western railway stopping on each station for 15 mins giving details of the same

  11. @Chintan : Totally agreed!! I just hope its a positive start!!GOd knows,we need it!! :-)

  12. to bring lokpal within us..is surely important...i agree... but we even need a lokpal outside...this is not going to be the final solution.. of course not..but it shows a way in the darktunnel.... u feel that ppl are simply joining in to the wagon...it may not be so...u can also take it in this way tht after many years ppl have got a chance to fight corruption unitedly....a single mans effort to fight corruption for his own ,will no doubt help him...but when unitedly we are fighting...we are trying to enlarge the scope of clean India... we are just not being cynical and sitting at home...discussing how corruption has withheld our progress.. we are now trying to find solution....

i surely believe that Lokpal gona help to bring greater good...provided we are vigilant towards it....

  13. @NIKITHA : I get ur point dear girl! and i in no way wanna say that getting lokpal within us is the only solution.Of course we need something that moderates the mechanism and if u read my comment above,u ll see that thats what i have reiterated always.Having said that i dont believe lokpal will work if u dont stop paying.I am lookin at things from the other end of spectrum!

  16. Of course, We need to look into ourselves first. But, again, if there are strict laws, the mere fear of it, might just bring down the level of corruption. It's quite obvious that it won't take a year or two to stop this. I think it's going to take a good decade or so.

  17. i didn't say you said...that's what i said...:)

  18. @SUBYes sub! i know u did'nt say i said!

  19. @Kumar BibekYes,I hope it does eventually. The wait will be worth it then.

  20. You are absolutely right upasana when u emphasise on the need to raise our conscience...unfortunately we have degraded to such a low moral fibre in our society that such thoughts seem to be brought out only by fear....and i ,personally, am very sceptical, that the day will come when all of us will unhesitantly choose the right path.... ur appeal is totally justified and is required not only for eradicating corruption but also in our everyday life....i hope a day will come when we would not need a lokpal outside cos we would have a stronger lokpal inside...but very sadly today is not the day...

  21. I believe corruption is mainly undertaken by corporates who want their work done in a jiffy. Evasion of taxes by industralist etc are large scale corruption encouraged by not only consultants but also employees in govt, to earn a quick buck. Now salaries are on the rise the need for being corrupt should come down drastically. The most unfortunate dev is that rich can even buy justice in India...that is where the real danger of corruption lies.
