True real love...

He gives his hand for her to hold out of a train slowly picking up pace and she runs at full speed (Completely decked up for her own wedding) and grabs hold of it. The heart soars and curtain falls. You come out of the movie with expectations set "Chopra and Johar" movies high.

We have a huge appetite for love stories and happily ever afters. We have been brought on stories of princess who needs to be rescued, an evil stepmother/father/family or animal, dragons that breathe fire and a prince charming who on his white horse slays everyone who comes in his way of getting to his beloved princess. Eventually, every prince and princess walk into the sunset and stay happily ever after.

We grow up expecting something similar, if not exactly the same, happening in our very own lives. We grow up expecting perfection, which we find out, exists only in stories and movies.

The prince in our life almost never behaves like the hero and prince. He rarely does the right thing or says the right words. Timing is something he almost never understands. He lets us down, breaks our heart, argues with us and we realize he is far from perfection that is called "prince charming".

We also see ourselves stumbling, behaving not so ladylike, losing our temper, being selfish, and basically doing all that makes us very different from the princess.

Our expectations that we held so dear to us since our childhood begin to fall apart. But the thing is not every story is written to be played out on the silver screen. Not every story has a perfect ending and almost no story, in real life, has a happily ever after.

Movies and stories come to an end abruptly without saying much about what happens after the prince and princess come together. In real life, that is when the actual story begins. What they face together, the highs and lows make for a wonderful story. And a unique one too.

Even though the prince of our life does not say the right things at the right time, we know for sure, that when he does, he means them. Each word is said as it comes out his heart. He may not be amazing with gestures, the flowers and gifts may not come on time and if they do the gift wrapper maybe missing but every gift has a serious thought behind it and the thought is just to get a smile on your face.

He maybe lousy and may not plan stuff as you would like but that impromptu plan to enjoy the first rain of the season together must be your most cherished memory.

The sooner we realize that the imperfection in our life is actually perfect, the happier we can be. Don’t expect the movie romance as there are no writers in our lives to give us lines and scripted moments. Be prepared for a whirlwind rollercoaster with the love of your life.

The rollercoaster is much better than the reel life as its as real as it gets. Besides, who does not want true love!

P.s : My guy is going to be thrilled after reading this and may consider himself very lucky. :-P

  4. Loved each and every line. Very aptly you have put up the harsh reality of the life. Not everything is a fairytale and they need to be left behind with the time. What we are not told in those stories is the hidden side of the prince. And when that side of the prince is actually experienced in the real life, it hurts. Only if someone could understand it!

  5. Absolutely correct! It would help if fairy tales are left behind in theatres, and real life is so much more exciting. I am sure your guy will be really pleased.

  6. Reel life normally has thorns at the beginning and a bed of roses in the end were as the real life is a mixture of thorn and roses till the day you breathe your last. Nice post Upasana and am sure that your guy always considers himself lucky.. not just because of your post !! Have fun

  8. I couldnt agree more. Those who thrieve for that "fairytale" almost always end up alone, because noobody can live up to perfect. Me and my boyfriend are perfectly flawed, and if you can accomplish being flawed together with somebody, then youve found love.
    Great post
    Cheers!

  9. Off course, its when we do not look for the perfectness shown in the movies, but work to make the moments and events perfect as we want...that we know that the pitfalls are small, the excuses are unnecessary and even the fights are worth it! :-P

Real is more pretty. And adventurous. And something to cherish. :)

  10. A very nice,good-feel,down to earth post...makes one feel good.
BTW the stories on small screen are the other extreme-with people, family & fate always plotting against the couple...we are happy betwixt the two extremes.

  12. Perhaps, it is perfect to connect the dots into a fine line and not complain about there being dots and not lines.

    Nice read Upasana!

  13. Not every story is written to be played out on the silver screen. So true! You couldn’t have explained the real life romance better. You brought out the little pleasures which eventually turn out to be precious treasures so well. “The sooner we realize that the imperfection in our life is actually perfect, the happier we can be.” – Simply Beautiful Line!

  14. So true.. Bollywood and fairy tales have made us unrealistic. We often complain about our partners because they do not match up these ideas.. Real life romance is all about being spontaneous and not making it picture perfect! Perfect things happen only on screen, in real life glitches make is memorable :)
